Competitions Update 19th May
In the opening rounds of the ESCA Under 15 One Day Cup, Manchester Grammar School (214-2) won a high scoring encounter with Durham School (210-6), while Scarborough College (184/8) bowled out Repton to win a close game by 12 runs. In another tight match, Sedbergh chased down 184 to secure a 3-wicket victory over RGS Newcastle. In the South-East, state school John Hampden Grammar School are through to the regional semi-final with notable victories over Abingdon and Wellington, while in the other half of the draw Ipswich also progressed to the semi-finals with a win over London champions Dulwich College. In the Midlands region, Gresham’s racked up 369-2 in 40 overs against Carre’s Grammar School thanks to centuries from Thomas Howe (160) and Monty Waters (105) while Bryan Mudalige made a fine 131* to see his Shrewsbury side through to the semi-final where they will face Oundle.
In the ESCA David English U13 Cup - in which 2025's Under 12 county winners compete for national honours - Bromsgrove edged past Midlands rivals Solihull in a rare ‘super-over’ and will face Haberdashers’ Adams in the regional semi-final. In the South-West, Blundell’s defeated Millfield but lost a tight game against state school Poole Grammar, a school without a grass pitch. Poole will face another state school, Sir Thomas Rich’s, in the regional final.
