On Wednesday, Yorkshire U13’s hosted Staffordshire U13’s at a sun drenched Castleford CC.

Winning the toss, Staffordshire elected to bat first on a good looking wicket which looked like it would offer the spinners plenty of assistance.  However, from the moment the first ball was bowled, Yorkshire took control of the game with their most disciplined performance of the season so far.  All the bowlers bowled with improved accuracy which was well supported by a more clinical fielding performance.  Leo Diffey 3-8 was the pick of the bowlers but everybody showed an improvement in executing their skills resulting in Staffordshire scrapping to 106 ao in 40.2 overs.

After the interval, Alex Cree took control of Yorkshire’s reply with a solid 58* in 99 balls.  Sam Spenceley (15), Diffey (13) and Lachlan Doidge (14*) all chipped in and supported Cree as Yorkshire romped home with 12.4 overs to spare and kept their hopes alive of reaching the Northern Counties Cup final in late August.

Yorkshire U13’s now go on a short tour to our capital city next week where they will play Kent and Essex in different formats of the game.
