David English Bunbury Final Report

WHITGIFT WIN A RAIN AFFECTED DAVID ENGLISH BUNBURY
U13 FINAL

There had been a great deal of overnight rain and the weather forecast for the Friday was extremely poor, as were the prospect of play.
Due to the hard work of the Groundstaff and the weather relenting play began on time.

Kings School, Grantham won the toss and elected to bat.

The opening pair of Law and Dempster batted steadily compiling a partnership of 33 with both openers falling to Erasmus.

Wickets fell steadily as King's School struggled to build a challenging total. The innings closed in the 34th over with the King's School on 83. Baxter for Whitgift ripped the heart out of the Kings School batting taking 4 – 17.

For King's Law scored 20, with Bell ending on 18 not out. Whitgift required 84 to win if the rain would allow.

In spite of interruptions as the rain began to have an influence on the outcome of the match, the opening batsman Erasmus and Beri compiled an unbeaten stand of 63, with Erasmus on 22 not out and Beri 26 not out. They batted extremely well, but unfortunately the weather beat us as a thunderous downpour put paid to any further play. The 10 over rule decreed Whitgift the winners.

The Chairman of ESCA, Dr David English CBE presented the trophies and medals. The Man of the Match was N Baxter and the Best all-rounder B Erasmus. Due thanks were paid to Oakham School, the Groundstaff, the Caterers, Umpires, Scorers and Managers.
