Asda Kwik Cricket Girls Tournament 2011

Heavy overnight rain meant that the Finals might not be played on the County Ground. The Head Groundsman was encouraging and at 9.10am declared we could play. The threatening clouds disappeared and the matches began early. Derbyshire provided two teams. The four leagues were hard fought and much enjoyed by all the competing Schools, with may of them setting off at really early times.

At the end of the League competition the four semi-finalists, being the winners of each individual league were declared. The semi-finalists being as follows:

Broad Chalke v Oakley
Vale School v St Katharine's

Broad Chalke struggled to score 209 – 7 as Oakley posted 254 – 4.
Oakley through to the Final.

Vale School scored a massive 277 -2 with St Katharine's posting 201 – 8.
Vale School through to the Final.

What a Final it turned out to be, as it ebbed and flowed with the result in doubt until the end as the scores reveal.

Vale School 243 – 1, Oakley 239 – 4.

The end of an exciting and tiring day, much enjoyed by staff, pupils and organisers. Katherine Brunt presented the prizes and everyone went home happy.
